How to Prepare for a Job Interview

A job interview is a chance to show an employer who you are. With careful preparation, you can feel more confident and give clearer answers. Follow these steps in the days before the interview.

1. Research the company. Read the company's website and recent news. Find out what it does, who its customers are, and what values it promotes. This helps you give answers that match the company's needs.

2. Study the job description. Underline the skills that the employer requires. For each skill, think of one example from school, volunteer work, or earlier jobs. Examples are more convincing than general claims such as "I am hardworking."

3. Practise common questions. Prepare answers for questions such as "Tell me about yourself" and "Why do you want this job?" Practise aloud with a friend, but do not memorise every word. You want to sound natural, not like a recording.

4. Prepare your own questions. At the end, most interviewers ask, "Do you have any questions?" Saying "No" may suggest that you are not interested. Ask about training opportunities or how the team works.

5. Plan the day. Choose clean, neat clothes the night before. Check the route and aim to arrive fifteen minutes early. Being late, even for a good reason, creates a poor first impression.
